Welcome!

church.jpgThe Mills River Presbyterian Church celebrated its Hundredth Birthday in 1959 by burying a time capsule in the cemetery to be opened in 2009. Church beginnings reach back to 1797 when a small log building was erected on ten acres of land given by Col. James Brittain to be used for religious and schooling purposes. In 1906, with $1,600.00 and half acre more land given by Mrs. Martha C. Reid, a new sanctuary was built--the same sanctuary that is used today. Over the past 140 years many improvements have been made. The most recent is a Fellowship Hall which is completed and in use.

The Church is a part of the Presbytery of Western North Carolina, a member of the Synod of the Mid-Atlantic, which stretches from Wilmington, Delaware, to Murphy, North Carolina, and the National Body of the Presbyterian Church (USA). The local church is governed by the Session, made up of nine elders elected by the congregation. Representatives of the Session are elected to Presbytery, which meets four times a year.

Mills River Presbyterian Church is a family of all ages and backgrounds who offers you friendship and love in the name of Jesus Christ. We care about each other as a family should. We care about the world in which we live. You are invited to come and share the experience!
